Noren are curtains hung in entrance ways in Japan. They usually display the family crest of the residents or business owners. They are also great just for decoration, or creating a lovely screen between rooms. This noren is very high quality, made from a handwoven textile called ramie. The pattern is achieved by dyeing using a traditional Japanese technique called "Hikizome". This technique was traditionally used for dyeing kimonos.

This design, Hachijyo Age, shows a Japanese icon, the drunk racoon in the full moon. Size is 880mm W x 1500 mm H.

This material needs to be cared for carefully. Please hand wash, and iron carefully. Do not fold or crease, as material can become brittle on folds. Colours may change slightly and shrinkage can occur. Sunlight will fade the colours, so it is best to use this item indoors, out of direct sunlight.
